This footage was taken by a camera trap set up by a local team from Nature Conservation Foundation, in partnership with the Snow Leopard Trust and the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department.

Our camera trapping work in Himachal Pradesh is part of an ongoing effort to estimate the snow leopard population of this state in northern India. The estimation will be done in a 20,000 km2 area, spread across six districts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Kangra and Chamba, and will include both snow leopards and their main prey species.

The implementation of the project will make Himachal Pradesh the first state to get a population estimation survey done on such a large scale.
